Projects
The Pipeline Montalbano Elicona – Messina Section “C”, runs across a mountain area in the north-eastern part of the Region of Sicily for a total of approx. 47,4 km.
The difficulties which defined the project were mainly due:
-
to the close proximity to other two (2) gaslines 48-inch as :
- less then 5 m, for 10,8 kms (22.64% of total length)
- between 5m and 10 m. for 29,9 kms. (62.97% of the total length)
in total 40,6 kms of the total length (85.61%) have been constructed in close alignment with the 48-inch existing pipelines, Ga.MeA & Ga.Me.B.
- several steep downward slopes, for a total of 12 kms (25,35% of total length).
- rocky areas for a total of 42,9 kms (95.10% of total length).
- nr. 4 microtunnels for a total length of 1,310 m.
- nr. 5 special sections for a total of 18,1 kms. (38.19% of total length).
The route, surely one of the most complex and difficult of those implemented in Italy, stretched almost entirely twisting through valleys, very steep rises and very demanding ridges. The close parallel was dictated both by the presence of environmental restrictions as well as the morphology of the areas crossed.
